Public involvement in the Draft RMP/EIS was initiated in February 2008 with a public scoping period. Public meetings were held throughout the region and the BLM solicited comments from the public, other agencies, and Tribes. The BLM also initiated government-to-government consultation with Tribes in the planning area and met with various user groups. Public involvement is described in more detail in Chapter 5 of the Draft RMP/EIS.

The comment period for the Eastern Interior Draft RMP/EIS will extend for 150 days following publication of the Notice of Availability in the Federal Register. All comments will be evaluated. Comments may lead to changes in one or more alternatives, or changes in the analysis of environmental effects. A Proposed RMP/Final EIS will then be completed and released subject to a 60-day protest period. If protests are received on the Proposed RMP/Final EIS, they will be reviewed and addressed by the Director of the BLM before a Record of Decision and Approved RMP is released.
